Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them - because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

How I’m Spending the 4th of July: Starting to sew my decidedly updated but still effortless graduate school wardrobe.
I know that the trend for college students has leaned towards comfortable, schlubby, and downright PAJAMAS for the past 30+ years. I’ve lived in jeans and tshirts for most of my life. And I had a conversation with another grad student recently who insisted that all grad students are even more underdressed than undergrads due to financial constraints. Which, okay, fine.
Maybe it’s because I’m moving to a new state in 4 weeks, maybe it’s because I’m newly inspired by some fashion blogs I’ve been peeking at lately, maybe it’s because I turned 34 a couple of weeks ago, or maybe it’s because I’m being paid to go to school and stand in front of a class a couple of times per week, but I definitely feel ready to step up my style a little bit. I’ve been reluctant to do so these past few years because I’ve felt fat, and therefore undeserving of looking nice.
Let me repeat: I’ve felt fat, and therefore undeserving of looking nice.
I’m a full-time feminist who is grossly aware of the disproportionate amount of body positivity in the fashion industry and I’m still affected by this mess (which makes me sad, and slightly disappointed in myself). But I’m not fat - I’m just not a 16-year old girl anymore. I’m a grown-ass woman with wide hips and big tits and a bit more stomach than I’d like but also a little more confidence. It’s totally okay for me to look cute, too.
I’ve been sewing for over 20 years. Fuck a fashion industry for telling me I’m too big to be pretty - I can make my own shit. Starting with two easy shirts and a super cute dress.
